Yes it has promised air-conditioned and eco-friendly stadiums to combat 50C summer heat, but with billions in oil and gas revenue available to spend, the attraction of a first World Cup in the Middle East has tilted the scales in its favor.
Who are we to judge how they choose to spend millions on one event? Inferiority complex maybe?
Let them be. They are after all a dot on the map.
